In Nigeria, police report arresting 29 suspects in murder case and other crimes
In Nigeria’s Niger State, police reported the arrest of 29 people in connection with alleged criminal activity, including an investigation into the killing of a village head. This was stated in the state police criminal bulletin, reports Premium Times Nigeria.
Investigation into the death of a village head
According to police, four men were detained in the case of the death of 53-year-old Bawa Barde, the head of Jilu village in the Fuka district of Munya Local Government Area. Law enforcement received a report of an attack on him on August 23 at about 7:00 a.m.
Police officers, the agency said, found Barde in the yard behind his home with severe machete wounds. He was taken to a medical facility, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Between August 25 and 28, Zegi Dogari, Danjuma Galadima, Bashir Umar and John Doma were detained. Police believe they may have conspired to carry out the attack over a dispute linked to a previous incident involving Umar. According to investigators, Barde had warned Umar, his cousin, against creating a cattle passage through his land.
The case was transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department in Minna. According to police, the detainees may face trial on murder charges.

Other cases
Police also reported the detention of three men suspected of stealing a cow in Katcha Local Government Area. They were detained on August 25 after a Toyota Corolla carrying the animal was pursued on the Bida–Minna road. Law enforcement said the detainees told investigators that they had stolen the cow near Kateri.
In separate operations, police detained people on suspicion of hooliganism, disturbing public order, causing bodily harm and possessing dangerous weapons. During a raid in the Angwan-Kanawa area, the agency said it seized a substance resembling cannabis, machetes, scissors and other items. Three more people were detained after a fight in Marikichi; police said one of them is suspected of wounding a man with a machete.
Law enforcement also seized a homemade pistol at a mining site in Dogon-Ruwa village in Bosso district. Separately, they reported seizing a Bajaj motorcycle and detaining 28-year-old Jeremiah Dogari, who is suspected of attempting to sell it. Police are looking for the vehicle’s lawful owner.
During a nighttime raid in the Angwan-Dakoko, Angwan-Kwakwa and Angwan-Gwari areas of Chanchaga, 12 people were detained. Police also detained 20-year-old Yusuf Musa in the Maitumbi area on September 5 in a case involving alleged armed robbery and housebreaking. According to police, the search continues for his alleged accomplice and the stolen property.
