Russia to close Germany's Consulate General in St. Petersburg

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation — an aggressor state — said that Germany's Consulate General in St. Petersburg must cease operations by September 18. Moscow called this a response to the closure of Russian institutions in Germany, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Response to Berlin's decision

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the consulate would cease operations following Moscow's earlier decision to close German cultural centers in Russia.

The Russian side linked the move to Germany's decision, made on Wednesday, to close the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural center in Berlin.
