169 village residents evacuated in China over landslide threat

In Suichuan County, Jiangxi Province, China, authorities evacuated 169 residents of Heping Village due to the threat of landslides caused by prolonged heavy rains. During the nighttime evacuation, people from 87 households in three village groups located in the danger zone were moved to a safe place.

Cracks on the slopes

After several days of continuous downpours, cracks appeared on mountain slopes near Heping Village in Dafeng Township. Local authorities deemed the situation a serious geological hazard and began an evacuation to prevent casualties.

According to ECNS, the evacuation was completed by 20:00. All relocated residents were temporarily accommodated at a local elderly care facility in the township.

Temporary accommodation

Bedding, drinking water and instant food were prepared at the temporary shelter for evacuees. This is intended to provide basic living conditions for people relocated from the risk zone.

On Sunday, the deaths of four people were also confirmed after a series of mudflows and landslides that occurred in Suichuan on Saturday.
