Poland refused to transfer MiG-29s to Ukraine and explained why
Poland has no plans to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. Defense Minister Vladislav Kosyniak-Kamysh made this statement on June 29, explaining that the decision was due to Kyiv’s failure to fulfill previous agreements regarding unmanned technology.
“I proposed what I believe was a very cooperative approach: MiGs in exchange for drones. The Ukrainians initially agreed, but did not fulfill this agreement, so there will be no MiGs for Ukraine, because Poland does not have drones or drone capabilities,” the minister explained.
The head of the Ministry of Defense acknowledged that Ukraine has tremendous potential in the field of drones, and that Ukraine recently began cooperating in this area with partners from the Middle East.
“This means that they have such extensive capabilities that when military equipment is supplied to them, it sometimes serves a symbolic—yet very important—purpose: for them to share their know-how and, to some extent, grant access to the technology. They are truly very skilled in this regard. And they agreed to this, but then reneged on these agreements,” the official added, according to Polsat News.
