POSCO renovates special education classrooms in eight schools — Korea Herald
Steel company POSCO has renovated special education facilities at eight elementary schools in Pohang, Gwangyang and Seoul, South Korea. The work was carried out under the Classroom Growing Together program, which supports public elementary schools with special education classes in regions where the company operates, Korea Herald reports.
School selection
Applications to participate in the program were accepted in April. On-site assessments were conducted and meetings with special education teachers were held in May and June. Eight schools were selected based on the age of their buildings, the number of students receiving special education, as well as previous and planned government support.

Classroom improvements
The renovations were completed during the summer holidays, allowing students to begin the second semester in upgraded facilities. The work took into account students' daily routines and teachers' suggestions. The classrooms received improved soft flooring and underfloor heating, soft wall panels, calming areas and storage spaces.
A special education teacher noted that even minor inconveniences in a classroom can have a greater impact on students receiving special education. According to the teacher, more comfortable conditions allow educators to devote more attention to children. Next year, POSCO plans to expand the program to middle schools.
