The ambassadors of France, Britain, and Germany arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry for talks on the war in Ukraine

The ambassadors of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany—Nicolas de Rivière, Nigel Casey, and Alexander Lambsdorff—arrived at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a meeting with the deputy minister.

According to a Russian news agency, the diplomats entered the Russian Foreign Ministry building without comment and were invited to a meeting with Deputy Minister Mikhail Galuzin.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the ambassadors of the three European countries had “requested a meeting” at the Russian Foreign Ministry to discuss the war in Ukraine.

He also noted:

“We will meet with them and listen to them. It’s actually interesting to see how these people will present their views, which may lead to constructive discussions,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov emphasized that Russia does not view the EU’s statements as a serious basis for negotiations.

“Until Russia is convinced that European statements about the desire to start negotiations are serious, we would not pay attention to them,” he said. 

The minister also added that he considers any “miracle” in changing the European Union’s approach to resolving the war in Ukraine to be unlikely.

The meeting is taking place against the backdrop of diplomatic contacts between Russia and leading European countries regarding the war in Ukraine, but the parties continue to demonstrate significant differences in their positions.
