During his official visit to Spain, Pope Leo XIV solemnly inaugurated and consecrated the Tower of Jesus Christ at the famous Sagrada Família Cathedral in Barcelona.

This event marked the completion of the construction of the cathedral’s tallest and most significant vertical structure, which raised the building to a height of 172.5 meters and made it the tallest church building in the world.

In his speech, Pope Leo XIV called Barcelona’s Sagrada Família a masterpiece of “stone, color, and light,” and inaugurated its newest and tallest tower.

It is reported that his visit to this iconic structure coincides with the 100th anniversary of the death of its architect, Antoni Gaudí.

The pontiff highlighted the religious and cultural legacy of the artist, whose unique project continues to be brought to life by subsequent generations of craftsmen.

The ceremony brought together the country’s top leadership and representatives of the Spanish monarchy. Among those present at the ceremony were King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Together with thousands of worshippers, they watched the blessing ceremony, which was accompanied by a spectacular light show and festive singing inside the cathedral.

This was reported by the BBC.
