Russia is preparing to ban gasoline exports by the end of 2026
Russia has decided to extend the ban on gasoline exports for all producers through the end of 2026. At the same time, Russian authorities plan to lift restrictions on diesel fuel exports from the country.
The decision to extend the ban on gasoline exports “for producers and non-producers” was adopted at a meeting of the relevant task force. This move is explained as an attempt to stabilize the situation on the domestic market.
At the same time, the Russian government plans to lift restrictions on diesel fuel exports.
According to the Russian government, this will be done “as the market recovers” to prevent oil refineries from facing a surplus of product and a reduction in processing volumes.
Russian officials emphasize that once domestic needs are met, it is important for them to export diesel to ensure full utilization of refinery capacity.
As a reminder, Kazakhstan sharply reduced oil production after the Black Sea terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC)—through which more than 80% of Kazakhstan’s oil exports pass—ceased operations.
Due to Ukrainian strikes in the waters of the Sea of Azov and restrictions on navigation through the Kerch Strait, grain exports from Russia have effectively been paralyzed.
India has raised export duties on diesel and jet fuel amid the escalating situation on the global oil market. This was caused by disruptions in oil supplies following the collapse of the interim peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran and the resumption of hostilities.
