US NATO Ambassador Whitaker: Alliance will not tolerate hybrid actions
In Italy, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that Alliance member states should not tolerate deliberate hybrid actions. The United States will support countries facing such incidents, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
Incident in Leipzig
Whitaker described as more alarming than other recent incidents an attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany that occurred last month. Berlin linked the incident to Russia, the aggressor state.
According to the US diplomat, this case differs from situations involving Russian drones targeting Ukraine and going off course. He also mentioned Poland among examples of more alarming hybrid actions.

Infrastructure protection
NATO countries must be prepared and vigilant and respond decisively to such challenges, Whitaker said. If those involved in an incident can be identified, it is necessary to state clearly that such actions are unacceptable.
The ambassador added that critical infrastructure facilities, including energy assets, could be potential targets, and national authorities must monitor them. According to him, responding to such threats is primarily the responsibility of individual states, while the United States provides them with support.
