Bulgarian Prime Minister Calls on Europe to Engage in Dialogue with Putin Over the Risk of Nuclear War — Euronews

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that Europe should reassess the balance between military, economic, and diplomatic tools and prioritize diplomacy in its relations with Russia. According to him, further escalation could lead to the risk of a Russian nuclear strike.

“We must always consider the worst-case scenario. Are we prepared for it? Is anyone even talking about risk assessment? After all, we are trying to achieve a conventional victory over the world’s largest nuclear power,” Radev said at the Euronews Defense and Space Summit.

According to the Bulgarian prime minister, Europe has not yet exhausted the possibilities of diplomacy and should use it more actively in its dealings with Russia. He noted that this is necessary not only to prevent a nuclear conflict but also to end the war in Ukraine.

In July, Radev stated that Bulgaria is no longer participating in the coalition that insists on continuing financial and military aid to Ukraine. According to the prime minister, Moscow has a “nuclear trump card” and may try to use it if it feels weakened or cornered.
