Qatar’s PM Al-Thani accuses Netanyahu of derailing Gaza peace efforts — Jerusalem Post

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of derailing efforts to reach a peace agreement in the Gaza Strip. In an interview with CNN, he said that the Israeli government, according to him, is not complying with agreements reached in October 2025 in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The Jerusalem Post reported on the Qatari official’s statements. According to Al-Thani, Egypt mediated between representatives of Israel and Hamas in negotiations on a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages.

Claims of violations of the agreements

Al-Thani claims that Israel controls more than 70% of the Gaza Strip’s territory and continues military operations, although the agreement provided for a ceasefire. He also said that the enclave receives an average of about 150 trucks of humanitarian aid per day, while the arrangement, he claims, required at least 600 trucks daily.

The head of Qatar’s government called Netanyahu the main obstacle to advancing the peace plan and said that mediators are trying to ensure implementation of the agreement. He also claimed that Israeli authorities had previously proposed postponing discussion of a long-term settlement because of electoral cycles.

Denial of Hamas funding allegations

Al-Thani rejected accusations that Qatar transferred funds to Hamas’s military wing. According to him, no Qatari money reached this wing, either intentionally or unintentionally. He said that Gaza was funded in coordination with and with the consent of the UN and the Israeli government.

According to the Qatari prime minister, the funds were directed toward purchasing gas from Israel for power plants in Gaza, assistance to low-income families approved by Israel, and payments to civil servants in the strip. Al-Thani said that such transfers were usually made at Israel’s request.

Comment on Qatargate

The Qatari prime minister also commented on the “Qatargate” scandal in Israel, calling it absurd. He said that Israeli politicians are using Qatar as a “scapegoat” in their domestic political struggle, and also mentioned former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s initiative to designate Qatar as an enemy state.
