Dutch Prime Minister Jetten condemns attempts to undermine ICC — Anadolu Agency

In New York, United States, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, speaking at the UN General Assembly, condemned attempts to undermine the International Criminal Court. According to Anadolu Agency, he said such actions pose a threat to the entire international legal order.

Call to protect international institutions

Jetten recalled that the ICC is located in his country and city, stressing that the court was established to fight impunity. The Dutch prime minister called on the international community to protect the ICC and other institutions on which international law is based.

According to him, the international legal order is coming under increasing pressure due to violations of international law and human rights, as well as the weakening of institutions designed to protect people and populations.

Cooperation and the role of middle powers

The Dutch prime minister also drew attention to humanitarian suffering in Gaza and Sudan. He called on states not to focus solely on their own interests, but to seek common solutions through international cooperation.

Jetten believes that middle powers should contribute more actively to cooperation, while countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America should play a fuller role in global decision-making. He also described artificial intelligence as an area requiring international cooperation and asked whether decisions on this technology should be made by a small group of companies and states or jointly within the UN.
