Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expected to return from trip to the US and UK — Dawn

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to return to the country on Tuesday after a two-week trip to the United Kingdom and the United States. This was reported by Dawn, citing a source in the prime minister’s office.

According to the publication’s source, Sharif is due to leave London on Tuesday morning and return to Pakistan in the evening. He left Islamabad on September 16, made a three-day stop in London, and then travelled to the United States to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Address at the UN General Assembly

During his address to the General Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif outlined Pakistan’s position on regional and global developments and called for peace through diplomacy. The topics of his speech included regional security, water rights and international conflicts.

On the New York leg of the prime minister’s trip, he was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers and senior officials. On his way back, Sharif again spent two days in London.

Meetings in New York

In New York, Pakistan’s prime minister met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The sides discussed regional peace, bilateral cooperation and de-escalation in the Middle East amid the war between Iran and the United States and discussions on the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

Sharif also held talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, raising the issues of climate challenges, Islamophobia and regional security. In addition, he met with the Crown Prince of Kuwait, the Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the leaders of Kenya and Austria, discussing economic ties and multilateral cooperation.
