The head of the Japanese government called the strait an international public good and noted that tensions in the Middle East are escalating, while freedom and security of navigation are coming under increasing pressure. According to her, Japan, in cooperation with the international community, is continuing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region as soon as possible.
Tokyo is also seeking to maintain diplomatic communication channels while looking for alternative sources of oil supplies. This year, Japan supported international talks on freedom of navigation and said it had proposed at the International Maritime Organization the creation of safe maritime corridors for vessels and crews in the Arabian Gulf.
