Finland’s president impresses online with his home library
The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, has drawn attention on social media after sharing how he spends his Sundays — relaxing in his personal reading room surrounded by hundreds of books. He reads to calm his mind and reflect, recently revisiting Virginia Woolf. Ukrainians and other online users have actively commented on his “hygge” lifestyle, praising the politician’s intellect and way of life. This became known from his Facebook post.
Stubb shared a photo of his reading room, where shelves are filled with books. He said that Sunday is a time for calm, reflection, and reading. “Sunday is for reading and reflection. For calming the mind. Inspired by Minna Canth Day, I recently reread A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf. A reminder that equality is something we must continue to fight for,” he wrote.

The president noted that Woolf’s ideas remain relevant and that equality should not be taken for granted. “This weekend — A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf. Ideas that still resonate. There is still much work ahead. Every day. My ‘reading room’,” he added.
The post sparked a wave of comments from Finnish and Ukrainian users. Many admired his intellect, athleticism, and love of books: “Why did the President of Finland post such a beautiful reading room? Look what he does after his triathlons and golf — where does he find the time to read?” some Ukrainians wrote.
Others responded by explaining his background: “Stubb’s master’s thesis is still cited in political science courses. His PhD supervisors were leading scholars. He has taught at one of Europe’s most prestigious universities. So yes, this is not fake — it is reality.” Another user added: “I have seen a trend among Western bloggers of confessing their admiration for Finland’s president. He really is very athletic, intelligent, and well-read.”
Some pointed out that such leisure reflects a typical Scandinavian concept known as hygge — stepping away from noise and spending quiet time with books: “A normal Scandinavian thing called hygge, which can include complete withdrawal from social interaction and reading in silence.”
Stubb’s post has become an example of how high-ranking officials can inspire others through simple yet meaningful habits — reading and reflection, while maintaining an active lifestyle and an interest in culture.
Separately, the European Union has restricted Hungary’s participation in confidential negotiations.
