French president dismisses Louvre leadership amid security and renovation failures
French President Emmanuel Macron has dismissed those responsible for the Louvre’s reconstruction and security following thefts and a failed modernization project. This led to a change in the museum’s and the Ministry of Culture’s leadership in 2024.
Culture Minister Rachida Dati resigned alongside Louvre Director Laurence de Car. An investigation revealed that the museum’s management had ignored warnings for years about vulnerabilities in its security system. Security staff appointments included Dominique Bubfen, a close friend of the director, raising further concerns. The director’s previous report emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security and improved mobile communication within the museum.
This situation questions the management efficiency of one of the world’s most renowned museums and poses significant challenges for future restructuring of security systems and renovation oversight.
