The Iranian president called the U.S. naval blockade doomed to failure
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that any attempts by the United States to block Iranian ports violate international law and the interests of countries in the region. The head of state emphasized that such measures only threaten global peace and stability, but will not force Tehran to compromise its sovereignty.
CNN reported this, citing the politician’s speech on the occasion of Persian Gulf National Day, which is celebrated on April 30.
Peseshkian’s comments came amid increasing pressure from the Donald Trump administration, which is laying the groundwork for expanding restrictions on Iran’s maritime trade. According to the Iranian leader, the Strait of Hormuz remains a symbol of the nation’s resistance, and attempts at economic isolation through the blocking of waterways will not achieve their goal. Iranian authorities believe that the maritime blockade strategy is part of a broader conflict that has shifted to the economic and logistical spheres following a period of direct military confrontation.
Currently, Tehran insists that security in the region must be ensured through the collective efforts of coastal states without the intervention of external forces. Pezeshkian noted that responsibility for any destabilization in the Persian Gulf will lie with the U.S. and its allies, who are initiating illegal restrictions. Despite Washington’s tough rhetoric, Iran declares its readiness to defend its ports and continue exporting energy resources through strategically important waterways.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated his intention to maintain a complete naval blockade of Iran until an agreement is signed that addresses Washington’s demands regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the U.S. Navy to prepare for a prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, seeking to maximize economic pressure on Iran. The conflict has been ongoing for three months, and this new strategy could significantly alter the balance of power in the region.
Prior to this, French President Emmanuel Macron announced active diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. During a visit to Andorra, he emphasized that he is negotiating with both Donald Trump and the Iranian side to resolve the energy crisis “at its root.”
Iran has presented the United States with a new proposal to resolve the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and end the war. At the same time, Tehran is proposing to postpone nuclear negotiations to a later stage.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran continues to attempt to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that such approaches are unacceptable to the United States and underscored the importance of freedom of navigation in the region.
