South Korean president confirms readiness to facilitate dialogue between North Korea and the United States
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said during a visit to France that he is ready to help restore dialogue between North Korea and the United States. In his view, this could help halt Pyongyang's buildup of its nuclear capabilities.
Interview ahead of the Paris summit
Lee Jae Myung confirmed this position in a written interview with the French outlet Le Monde, published on Sunday. This was reported by Korea Herald. The president arrived in Nice, where he began a four-day visit to France. In Paris, he is scheduled to hold a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to Lee Jae Myung, he is ready to be a “pacemaker” who will help restore dialogue between North Korea and the United States. He also noted that the “wall of distrust” cannot be torn down overnight through several measures.
The president reaffirmed his administration's course toward peaceful coexistence with North Korea. According to him, this policy is aimed at reducing inter-Korean tensions and strengthening peace.

Relations with the United States and France
Lee Jae Myung also commented on recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about South Korea. According to him, they are not an attack capable of undermining the resilience of allied relations, but indicate an intention to renew the alliance in line with the new demands of the times.
The president added that Seoul seeks to expand its role in the alliance with the United States by increasing defense spending and strengthening military capabilities. Speaking about relations with France, he said that bilateral friendship is entering a new, future-oriented stage and promised to strengthen cooperation between the countries.
Lee Jae Myung's visit is taking place at Macron's invitation following the French president's trip to South Korea in April. The exchange of visits coincided with the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
