The Polish president has reacted to the defeat of Orbán, whom he supports

Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed respect for the sovereign choice of the Hungarian people and his readiness to cooperate with the new government of the Tisa Party.

RMF24 reported this, noting that the Polish leader emphasized the importance of continuing the strategic friendship between the countries regardless of the election results.

Navrotsky stressed that as President of the Republic of Poland, he would work with any democratically elected leader in the interests of his country. This reaction came amid a recent scandal in which the Polish president personally visited Hungary to support Viktor Orbán, for which he faced harsh criticism from his own coalition. In particular, Speaker Włodzimierz Czazasty called the visit a mistake that discredits Warsaw’s foreign policy.

Despite his previous support for Fidesz, Nawrocki acknowledged the defeat of his allies and the victory of Péter Magyar’s opposition bloc. Official Budapest is currently preparing for a shift in the format of its relations with the EU and neighboring countries following the completion of the vote count. Analysts note that the Polish president’s recognition of the results signals Warsaw’s intention to maintain its influence within the Visegrad Group.

Navrotsky’s future interaction with the new Hungarian prime minister will depend on “Tisa’s” stance on security issues and relations with Russia. The situation in Hungary remains one of the main topics on the European political agenda for April 2026. Currently, Péter Magyar is preparing to form a cabinet, having a solid majority in parliament.

The Kremlin did not congratulate Magyar on his victory and called Hungary an unfriendly country.

Trump declined to comment on the defeat of his friend Orbán in the Hungarian elections.

As a reminder, according to the results of 98.93% of the votes counted, the “Tisza” party won 69.35% of the vote. This gives the opposition 138 seats in parliament, allowing it to form a constitutional majority on its own.
