The President of Romania has set a condition for the expulsion of the Russian ambassador from the country
The Romanian authorities are prepared to take the strongest possible diplomatic measures, including the expulsion of the head of the Russian diplomatic mission, in the event of further violations of its airspace by enemy drones during attacks against Ukraine. Official Bucharest is demanding that Moscow exercise the utmost caution so that strikes on Ukrainian cities do not pose a direct threat to the lives of Romanian citizens.
The President of Romania made this statement in an interview with the BBC.
Earlier, the country had already closed the Russian consulate in Constanta and officially expelled the Russian consul following an incident involving the crash of a Shahed-type strike drone near the city of Galati. The country’s leadership emphasized that, in the hierarchy of further diplomatic response measures, expelling the ambassador is the logical next step if the Russian side ignores the warnings. Currently, Romanian military experts have fully completed the identification of the debris and officially confirmed that the crashed drones are indeed “Geran-2” models manufactured in Russia.
Bucharest has no doubts regarding the origin of the downed or crashed unmanned aerial vehicles, as local experts were able to thoroughly compare the recovered fragments with an undamaged model of another Russian drone that had landed on Romanian territory several weeks earlier and had not detonated. The Romanian side calls on international partners to closely monitor the situation in the Black Sea region, as the regular falling of combat components from Russian UAVs on NATO territory sets a precedent for escalation that requires decisive and systematic countermeasures.
