President Ruto orders Tata Chemicals to cease operations in Kenya
Kenyan President William Ruto said he had ordered the Indian company Tata Chemicals to cease operations in the country. This was reported by The Hindu International. According to Ruto, the government plans to bring in two new companies to take over Tata Chemicals' operations.
Plant operations suspended
At the end of July, Tata said that the Kenyan government had ordered its Tata Chemical Limited unit to suspend work at the Magadi Soda plant. The authorities also suspended exports of soda ash.

The president's position
Ruto explained his decision by saying that, in his view, the company's presence had not benefited Kenya. During a visit to the Kajiado region in the south of the country, he said that Tata had a 100-year contract but had not built a single enterprise or plant in Kajiado.
The president did not name the two companies the government plans to bring in to take over Tata Chemicals' operations. Ruto made the statement on September 3.
