President Trump confirms intention to engage in dialogue with North Korea — Korea Herald

US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in New York, reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue with North Korea. The summit took place on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and lasted 30 minutes, South Korean National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said.

Defense and nuclear issues

According to Wi Sung-lac, the leaders discussed Seoul's aspiration to obtain nuclear-powered submarines. South Korea's rights to enrich uranium and reprocess spent nuclear fuel were also among the topics of the talks.

The sides separately raised the issue of transferring wartime operational control over South Korean forces to South Korea. The adviser did not provide further details on the outcome of discussions on these matters.

Strategic projects

In addition, the presidents considered cooperation in shipbuilding. According to Wi Sung-lac, Trump and Lee also welcomed progress in bilateral strategic projects.
