Sudan’s prosecutor general cites foreign support for Rapid Support Forces
Sudan’s Prosecutor General Intisar Ahmed Abdelaal stated at a session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, that foreign support for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is one of the main reasons for the prolonged war and continued violations in the country.
Call for decisive action
Abdelaal, who also heads Sudan’s National Committee for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National and International Law, called on the UN Human Rights Council to condemn such support and take decisive measures to end it. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing the Sudan News Agency.
She also asked the Council and other UN mechanisms to support the national committee, uphold the principle of complementarity, and take immediate steps to end foreign support for the RSF.

Sudan’s position on the UN mission
The prosecutor general reiterated that Sudan rejects external mechanisms that, according to her, bypass national efforts. She also confirmed the country’s opposition to the resolution establishing the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan.
Last Thursday, this UN mission stated that external support networks are contributing to the continuation of the war in Sudan. Fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has continued since April 2023. According to estimates by the UN and international organizations, tens of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, while about 13 million have been forced to leave their homes.
