Cyprus prosecution drops case against three defendants in businessman’s murder
In Limassol, Cyprus, the prosecution has dropped proceedings against three of the six defendants in the case concerning the murder of 49-year-old businessman Stavros Demosthenous. The decision regarding the first, second and third defendants was announced at the Limassol Criminal Court, Cyprus Mail reports.
Additional charge
The first defendant was also charged additionally with the theft of a car. He pleaded guilty to this count.
Earlier, all six defendants had pleaded not guilty to 15 charges. These include premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, theft and arson of a car, illegal possession, transportation and use of firearms and explosives, as well as participation in a criminal organisation.

Murder of Stavros Demosthenous
Demosthenous, who was a businessman and former chairman of the Karmiotissa football club, was shot dead on October 17, 2025. During the attack, he was travelling in a car driven by his 18-year-old son near Demosthenous’ home in the Agios Athanasios area of Limassol.
According to the investigation, several vehicles were involved in the attack. The van used in the shooting was later set on fire, while a motorcycle was allegedly used to flee the scene. Hearings in the case were due to continue on September 8, with further sessions also scheduled throughout the month.
