Public transportation fares in Bucharest may rise by 40% — Digi24

The Romanian capital is preparing to raise public transportation fares by approximately 40%.

This was reported by Digi24.

The changes were initiated by the metro operator Metrorex. The new fares have already been included in a draft decision by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and could take effect on May 1.

According to the proposal, a single metro ticket will increase from 4.5 to 6.5 lei, and a day pass from 11 to 16 lei. The cost of passes will also rise: monthly passes to 126 lei, six-month passes to 630 lei, and annual passes to 1,170 lei.

The price of a single ticket valid for all modes of transport will also increase—from 5 to 7 lei.

Metrorex expects that the fare increase will boost monthly revenue by more than 10 million lei.

The previous fare increase in Bucharest took place in January 2025 and was also around 40%.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan received an official invitation from his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit the Ukrainian capital.

As a reminder, Romania recognizes Russia as the main threat in its updated doctrine.
