Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has appointed Igor Chaika as the new head of Rossotrudnichestvo.
This is stated in the relevant decree.
The agency’s previous head, Yevgeny Primakov, was dismissed from his post. He himself ironically commented on his resignation with the words “Dobby is free.”
Igor Chaika is the son of former Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika. Since 2021, he has headed the Public Council of Rossotrudnichestvo, and since March 2026, he has served as the agency’s deputy head.
Chaika gained widespread notoriety following investigations by the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which revealed the creation of a business empire through his father’s administrative resources.
Rossotrudnichestvo manages a network of “Russian Houses” abroad, which are dedicated to promoting Russian culture and exerting informational influence.
In recent years, funding for the agency has increased significantly—funds are directed, in particular, toward developing a network of loyal activists and promoting the Russian language abroad.
Environmentalists confirm the seriousness of the situation, pointing to the risks of acid rain, which threaten not only human health but also the fertility of agricultural land along the coast.
As a reminder, a massive fire continues at an oil terminal in the Russian city of Tuapse, which broke out following a strike by Ukrainian drones on April 16. Firefighters have been unable to fully extinguish the blaze for several days now.
