Annual record: 50 migrants from Belarus attempted to cross into Lithuania in a single day
On April 26, 50 migrants attempted to enter Lithuania illegally from Belarus—the highest number since the beginning of 2026.
This was reported by LRT.
According to border guards, two groups—consisting of 11 and 39 people, respectively, including one woman—attempted to enter the country.
Those detained stated that they had arrived from Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. Some of them had documents, while others did not.
All migrants were turned back.
The Lithuanian Border Guard Service notes that earlier in April, they had already recorded attempts to cross the border—26 and 37 people per day.
In total, 612 illegal migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania since the beginning of 2026.
In 2025, over 1,600 attempts to cross the border illegally were recorded, which is more than in 2024.
Lithuania believes that migration pressure from Belarus has been ongoing since 2021.
Lithuania noted the effect of the reduction in the excise tax on diesel.
Lithuania extended sanctions against Russians and Belarusians until 2027.
