Reform UK announced a military operation to curb migration across the English Channel
The British right-wing populist party Reform UK has stated that, if it wins the election, it will halt the flow of asylum seekers across the English Channel through “the largest military operation in the English Channel since World War II.”
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage made this statement on August 3, according to “European Truth,” citing Reuters. He said the party plans to intercept asylum seekers arriving in small boats and return them to France.
Citing the migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in Africa, Farage stressed the need to tighten immigration policy. In his view, the proposed approach will make the UK’s border impenetrable.

“Under a Reform UK government, there will be no more boats in just two weeks,” he said.
The English Channel remains one of the most popular routes for migrants attempting to reach the UK from France. Despite strong currents, heavy ship traffic, and unstable weather conditions, thousands of people attempt to cross the strait in small boats every year.
On April 27, the French Coast Guard rescued more than a hundred migrants from a boat that capsized while attempting to cross the English Channel. In early May, migrants died while attempting to cross the strait in a small boat.
