Trump Wants Infantino to Remain FIFA President – The Telegraph

U.S. President Donald Trump supports the idea of Gianni Infantino continuing to lead the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). This was reported by The Telegraph, citing a high-ranking official in the U.S. administration.

According to the source, who has close ties to both Trump and Infantino, the White House chief views the FIFA president’s work favorably, particularly because of his role in organizing the World Cup, which Trump considers “the best in history.”

“The president has a very high regard for him. I am confident that the president will do everything possible to help him,” The Telegraph quotes the source as saying.

The source also noted that Trump appreciates Infantino’s dedication and would like him to remain FIFA president.

As a reminder, the soccer associations of Sweden and Wales have decided to no longer support Gianni Infantino in the upcoming election for president of the International Federation of Association Football. England may join them in the near future.

UEFA is considering filing a lawsuit against FIFA over the now-canceled plan to sell a stake in the commercial rights to the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors.
