The United States has imposed sanctions on Russian military entities
The United States has imposed new sanctions against a number of Russian military entities for violating the Iran, Syria, and North Korea Nonproliferation Act (INKSNA). This was reported by the U.S. Department of State.
The State Department clarified that the sanctions took effect on July 24, but their imposition was officially announced on August 4. A number of units of the Russian Armed Forces and the Russian Ministry of Defense were added to the sanctions list, including the Russian Ground Forces, the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Directorate for Advanced Inter-Service Research and Special Projects of the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as the 1061st Logistics Support Center.
In addition, the restrictions were extended to the companies “Gideon Alpha” and “International Invest Company,” as well as their legal successors, structural units, and subsidiaries.
The sanctions list of individuals includes five Russian citizens, as well as citizens of Malaysia, North Korea, Taiwan, Syria, and Iran.
The State Department noted that U.S. government agencies are now prohibited from purchasing goods, technology, or services from entities on the sanctions list, entering into contracts with them, providing anysupport, sell military-related products, or issue export licenses to them.
The INKSNA Act allows the U.S. to impose sanctions on foreign companies and citizens who cooperate with Iran, Syria, or North Korea in the supply of goods, services, or technologies that could be used to develop weapons of mass destruction and missile systems.
