Reuters: Airbus has eased restrictions on remote work following strikes
According to Reuters, Airbus has scaled back its plans to restrict remote work following a series of strikes by employees in Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. Company executives were informed that employees will be able to work from home an average of two days a week, The Guardian reports, citing Reuters.
Previously, the aircraft manufacturer had planned to limit remote work to one day per week starting in September. Currently, employees can work remotely two days a week. This initiative was part of a campaign by Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury aimed at bringing staff back to the office.
In June, Fori told employees that remote work had been necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, but that the company now needed in-person knowledge sharing. Airbus has hired thousands of new employees in an effort to fulfill a record number of orders and develop new products.

In Spain, intermittent strikes have been ongoing since July. In recent weeks, approximately 40% of the 14,000 Airbus employees in the country have participated in them. Among the issues that prompted the protests were remote work, transportation, paid leave, and salaries. In France and the United Kingdom, there have also been periodic protests against plans to require office employees to work in the office four days a week.
An Airbus spokesperson stated that the company remains committed to increasing on-site staff presence to improve team efficiency, knowledge sharing, and faster decision-making. At the same time, he said, following employee feedback, the company decided to implement the transition more gradually. According to Reuters, the strikes did not affect Airbus’s production.
