Shehbaz Sharif orders development of SME support in Pakistan — Dawn
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) to prepare a comprehensive strategy for financial support for small and medium-sized businesses and entrepreneurs. The initiative is intended to strengthen enterprises’ capacity and expand their access to global markets, Dawn reports.
Priorities for Smeda
At a meeting in Islamabad, Sharif said that Smeda’s key institutional tasks should be developing entrepreneurship, ensuring a level playing field and providing equal technical support in all regions of the country.
The prime minister also instructed that the existing Smeda programme aimed at more actively involving women in small and medium-sized industrial enterprises and business be expanded.

Digital platforms and agricultural links
Sharif instructed that digital platforms be used more effectively so that local entrepreneurs can enter national and international commercial markets. According to him, the business development strategy should cover as many regions and sectors as possible.
Separately, the prime minister instructed that measures be prepared to organise production and commercial links in the agricultural products sector. He stressed that financial support for entrepreneurs, strengthening their technical capacity and providing the necessary conditions should receive equal attention.
