Russia has confirmed the death of a Polish citizen in a Taganrog detention center

Russian authorities have officially confirmed for the first time the death of Polish citizen Krzysztof Halos, who was detained following a trip to Ukraine. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the man was detained in Melitopol for allegedly “obstructing a special military operation,” after which he was transferred to a pretrial detention center in Taganrog, where he died on July 4, 2023.

Gazeta Wyborcza reports on this.

Moscow claims that the cause of death was “natural causes,” specifically cardiovascular failure caused by cardiomyopathy.

According to them, the body was buried in Taganrog at the state’s expense.

At the same time, the deceased’s family states that they have not received any official death certificate. The Polish side has submitted a request to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding this matter.

Galos’s son emphasized that the most important thing for the family is to obtain the documents and ensure a proper reburial.

Earlier, the Polish government stated that it would continue implementing plans to create a national anti-drone system, even despite the president’s veto. The project involves creating a drone defense system using European Union loans.

Poland has decided to lower fuel taxes to curb rising prices. The government also plans to cap prices at gas stations. The decision is linked to rising oil prices due to the situation in the Middle East. Tusk announced this after a government meeting.
