Russia is teaching the Chinese about modern warfare and providing them with technology – The Economist

Beijing is actively adopting Russia’s modern combat experience and military technologies to compensate for the lack of real-world experience in its own armed forces. This is reported by *The Economist*, citing European intelligence sources.

According to intelligence reports, since 2024, Chinese military personnel have been training at a range near Volgograd alongside units of Russia’s 8th Combined Arms Army. The training covers operations involving UAVs, electronic warfare systems, combat in urban areas and forests, assault operations, mine laying, and field medicine.

In addition to personnel training, the cooperation includes the transfer of technologies in the fields of air defense, missile defense, reducing the detectability of nuclear submarines, and the development of missile attack warning systems. China is also studying Russian data on the effectiveness of Western weapons, particularly the HIMARS systems possessed by Taiwan.

Despite Beijing’s official denials, analysts note that China is seeking to address the lack of combat experience that the People’s Liberation Army has lacked since 1979.
