Sweden’s Riksbank expects interest rate hike this year — The Local Sweden

Sweden’s central bank, the Riksbank, kept its key interest rate at 1.75% and expects to begin raising it this year if its inflation and economic forecasts remain unchanged. The Local Sweden reports.

In its updated interest rate path forecast, the Riksbank also projected another increase by the second quarter of next year. The bank revised upward its inflation forecasts for the current and next years. The Riksbank said that if there are signs of a faster and more persistent increase in inflation, it will raise the rate more quickly than envisaged by the current forecast.

Strike at King canceled

A planned strike at King, the developer of Candy Crush Saga, was canceled after the company concluded a collective agreement with the Unionen and Engineers of Sweden trade unions. The action was due to begin on Friday, but the parties reached an agreement on Thursday evening.

Camilla Frankelius, head of negotiations at Engineers of Sweden, said that concluding the agreement was made possible by the active involvement of union members working at King.

Reports of election violations

Swedish police received 58 reports of possible violations related to voting in the recent elections. According to Fredrik Bratt, deputy head of national police operations, this category covers a wide range of election-related offenses.

Most reports were received in the weeks before and after the elections. They concern the theft or concealment of ballot papers, as well as cases in which polling station workers did not put out ballot papers. Some reports concern possible attempts to influence other people’s choices. According to police, none of them are similar to the suspected electoral fraud in Dalarna that is under investigation.

According to Dagens Nyheter, Douglas Thor, the head of the Moderate Party’s youth wing, will leave his post at the organization’s congress on November 22. He has led the party’s youth wing since 2022.
