The Colosseum in Rome was closed due to an accident – CNN

The Colosseum in Rome has been completely closed to visitors following the death of Andrea Moretti, a specialist in high-altitude work. 

The 22-year-old worker died during the night shift after falling from a height of about 10 meters while installing a new lighting system. The Italian Ministry of Culture initially allowed morning tours only on the first level to avoid crowds at the entrances, and after the tours ended, it closed the monument entirely. 

Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and stated the need to strengthen safety measures.

According to the Archaeological Park, the Colosseum is usually closed only on December 25 and January 1, as well as in exceptional cases, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or Barack Obama’s visit in 2014.

Earlier reports indicated that a 19-year-old Ukrainian man, while visiting the Colosseum in Rome, decided to take a selfie at this architectural landmark, after which the hooligan was apprehended. Judging by the inscription he left behind, the young hooligan’s name is Dima, and even the mayor of Rome took notice of his actions.
