Families of those killed and missing after ferry sinking near Kyrenia can receive €10,000
Cyprus has launched an online platform for submitting applications for emergency financial assistance to the families of those killed and missing following the sinking of a ferry near Kyrenia. The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation has allocated up to €280,000 for the programme, Cyprus Mail reports.
Support for 28 families
Relatives can apply through a special online form and may receive €10,000 per family. The assistance is intended for widows, orphans and parents of people who were killed or went missing after the disaster.
The ferry sank last Sunday about four miles off the northern coast of Cyprus while heading to Turkey. At the time of publication, 13 people had been confirmed dead, while another 15 were considered missing.

Statement by the foundation’s founder
The organisation’s founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, said that the foundation would provide assistance regardless of the victims’ nationality. According to him, peace and solidarity are important values for the foundation, particularly in Cyprus, where his parents were born.
Haji-Ioannou also noted that the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation had previously provided assistance to families affected by emergencies in Cyprus and other countries. He expressed hope that the payments would at least partially ease the suffering of the 28 families grieving the loss of loved ones.
