Russia Is Blocking Peace Talks with Ukraine — Finnish President Stubb

While visiting Ukraine on August 23, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that our country is seeking pragmatic solutions to end the war, but Russia is blocking the negotiation process.

“My view of the situation is that the ball is not in Ukraine’s court—it is entirely in Russia’s court. I believe that Ukrainians are seeking pragmatic solutions in the negotiations, but it is the Russians who are failing to demonstrate concrete results. And the Americans will not come to Moscow or Kyiv until they feel there is a tangible result to present,” the politician said.

The Finnish leader also stated that he would convey his own assessment of the two-day meeting and the summit in Kyiv to Washington to facilitate further decision-making. At the same time, he urged against exaggerating his own role or that of other small states, since their task is to provide objective information and help find a way out of the crisis.

“But the problem isn’t in Ukraine; the problem is in Russia,” Stubb concluded.

Stubb made these remarks in a comment to tsn.ua.

As a reminder, Ukraine and Finland have agreed to jointly produce weapons and military equipment for both our own needs and those of our European partners.

Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that the course of the war has been shifting in Ukraine’s favor for some time now, and that new Western sanctions are expected to reinforce this trend.

Zelenskyy welcomed the progress of the U.S. sanctions bill against Russia.
