Russia Delivered Armored Vehicles to Mali on a Ship Subject to Sanctions — BBC
Russia shipped a consignment of military equipment to Mali using the “Mikhail Britnev,” a cargo ship subject to sanctions. The shipment included armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, and military trucks.
According to journalists, on July 25, Mali’s state television aired footage of a large convoy of armored vehicles arriving in the country’s capital, Bamako.
As the BBC notes, the “Mikhail Britnev” docked at the port of Lomé on July 9. It was carrying military trucks, armored personnel carriers, and infantry fighting vehicles.
According to ship-tracking services, the “Mikhail Britnev” departed from the Russian port of Baltiysk on June 18, passing through the North Sea and the English Channel. While passing through the strait, it was escorted by a large Russian landing ship of the “Ropucha” class.
BBC Verify noted that the port of Baltiysk has become a transshipment point for several ships carrying military cargo to West African countries.

As a reminder, the “African Corps,” controlled by the Russian Ministry of Defense, suffered losses in Mali, and Russian troops allegedly retreated during an ambush, leaving Malian junta fighters without support.
