Russian authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for opposition politician and 13-time world chess champion Garry Kasparov. Russian law enforcement agencies accuse the former world chess champion of allegedly justifying terrorism online and violating legal requirements regarding the activities of so-called “foreign agents.”

This is reported by Russian propaganda agencies.

“G. K. Kasparov has been charged (in absentia) with crimes under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (justification of terrorism on the internet), Part 2 of Article 330.1, and Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent). A circular has been issued, … and an international arrest warrant has been issued,” the criminal case materials state.

It is known that on December 22, 2025, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow arrested Garry Kasparov in absentia. And in March 2024, he was added to the list of terrorists.

As a reminder, earlier, the so-called opposition Russian politician Vladimir Kara-Murza stated that he was leaving the Russian Anti-War Committee. He cited the unacceptable behavior of one of the organization’s leaders, Garry Kasparov, whom he accused of rudeness and personal insults, as the reason, he wrote on social media.
