Russia backs India’s candidacy for a permanent UN Security Council seat — The Hindu
In New York, United States, the Russian Federation — an aggressor state — supported India’s candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this during a speech at the UN General Assembly, The Hindu International reports.
The candidacies of India and Brazil
According to Lavrov, Russia also supports Brazil’s candidacy for a permanent seat on the Security Council. He said that the Russian side advocates expanding the representation of countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in this body.
The Russian foreign minister also stressed that the interests of the African continent must be taken into account during the Security Council reform.

Objections to new seats for the West
At the same time, Lavrov said that reforming the UN Security Council should not provide for additional seats for Western countries, including Germany and Japan. He claimed that these states had allegedly embarked on a path of militarism and revanchism.
The Russian minister made the statement during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
