Russia is closing the Romanian Consulate General in St. Petersburg and expelling the consul general
Russia declared the Romanian Consul General in St. Petersburg persona non grata and decided to close the Romanian Consulate General in the city.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that these actions are a response to Bucharest’s decision to revoke its consent for the Russian Consulate General in Constanta to operate and to declare its head persona non grata.
In late May, Romanian authorities decided to close the Russian Consulate General in Constanța and expel Consul General Andrei Kosilin after a drone crashed onto the roof of a residential building in Galați. According to the Romanian side’s findings, the drone was of Russian origin.
