Russians are snapping up homes in Minsk en masse amid internet issues

Russians have begun actively purchasing real estate in Belarus amid tightening restrictions on communications and the internet in Russia.

In March 2026, Russian citizens purchased one in ten apartments in Minsk—126 out of 1,284 transactions.

By comparison, in 2019 their share was only 1.5%, and in 2021—3%.

Experts note that Russians mostly choose comfort-class and higher-end housing, which contributes to the overall rise in market prices.

In Belarus, foreigners are allowed to purchase real estate without significant restrictions.

Additionally, a large-scale mobile network outage was reported in the Belgorod region. On March 18, authorities resorted to a complete shutdown of mobile internet for the first time.

Earlier, the St. Petersburg authorities officially announced the introduction of restrictions on mobile internet service, citing security measures as the reason.

Internet access was lost in the building of the Russian State Duma amid widespread network restrictions in Moscow.
