A Russian man was sentenced to 23 years for treason and espionage on behalf of Poland
Georgy Pirogov, a resident of the Moscow Region, was sentenced to 23 years in a strict-regime penal colony on charges of treason. The FSB of the Russian Federation stated that the man allegedly gathered classified information for Polish intelligence agencies.
According to the Russian intelligence agency, after the start of the full-scale war, Pirogov left for Georgia, where he worked as an industrial climber. In 2024, he traveled to Uzbekistan, after which he ceased all communication.
The FSB claims that the man subsequently ended up in Poland, where he allegedly received a mission from a Polish intelligence officer to gather information on advanced weapons systems that Russia is using in the war against Ukraine.
The Russian intelligence agency also stated that Pirogov, through acquaintances in the Russian defense industry, obtained classified data on the production and use of missile systems.
Furthermore, according to the FSB, he transferred cryptocurrency to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces, purchased military equipment, and arranged for its delivery from Poland to Ukraine.
The circumstances of Pirogov’s detention and how he ended up on Russian territory remain unknown.
