Samsung is laying off hundreds of employees in the U.S.

Samsung Electronics is cutting jobs in the U.S. across its divisions that manufacture displays, mobile phones, and consumer electronics.

According to Reuters, the largest number of layoffs affected employees in New Jersey and Texas. In particular, the relocation of the headquarters of Samsung Electronics America (SEA) to Texas affected 739 jobs in Englewood Cliffs.

The company noted that most employees were offered the opportunity to relocate to the new office, but some staff members were laid off.

Reuters notes that the layoffs are taking place amid a challenging situation in the consumer electronics divisions, which are under pressure due to rising chip costs. At the same time, Samsung’s chip manufacturing business continues to post record financial results.

It is noteworthy that employees of Samsung’s U.S. division moved to a new office in New Jersey less than a year ago.
