Sandu stated that Russia is deliberately directing some of its drones toward Moldova
Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that some Russian drones enter the country’s airspace accidentally. At the same time, she said, Russia may be directing some drones toward Moldova intentionally.
During a live broadcast, Sandu was asked whether unauthorized drone flights through Moldova’s airspace were accidental or whether Russia might be using them to test the response capabilities of Moldova and its neighboring countries.
“I believe that some end up there by accident, while others are sent there—not only into our airspace but also into the airspace of other countries in the region. I have seen such cases in both Romania and Poland. Judging by the flight paths of these drones, it is possible to tell which ones were sent intentionally and which ones ended up there by accident,” Sandu said.
According to her, in both cases, these drones violate airspace and pose a danger to people, and the only party to blame for these incidents is the Russian Federation, which started the war.
At the same time, Sandu asserts that the possible expulsion of Oleg Ozerov, the head of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, will not stop the unauthorized drone flights. According to her, the notes of protest sent by Chisinau also do not change Russia’s policy.
“The most important thing we can do to stop these drones—in the Republic of Moldova, in Ukraine, and everywhere—is to help Ukraine and ensure that Ukraine wins this war,” Sandu stated.
Her statement, made on Teleradio Moldova on August 17, is reported by Newsmaker.
