Saudi Arabia will allocate $6 million to programs of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT). Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah announced this in New York, United States, during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Funding for four years

The financial contribution will be provided over four calendar years, starting from the 2027 fiscal year. The meeting between the minister and the UN secretary-general took place on the sidelines of the High-level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Saudi Arabia said that the support is linked to the importance of the Centre's programs for developing states' capacities in various areas of counter-terrorism. In the kingdom's assessment, the UNCCT plays a constructive role in strengthening the capacities of member states and uniting international efforts in this field.

Previous support for the Centre

The contribution was also described as a continuation of Saudi Arabia's cooperation with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism. Previously, the kingdom provided $110 million for the establishment of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre, as well as $300,000 to finance the Arab Counter-Terrorism Strategy project.
