Saudi Arabia recalls consul from UAE amid escalating tensions

Saudi Arabia has recalled its consul Abdullah bin Mansour from Abu Dhabi along with several Saudi businessmen from the United Arab Emirates. This reflects rapidly deteriorating diplomatic relations between the two countries, marked by increased arms purchases and diplomatic strain, though direct military confrontations between Dubai and Riyadh have not occurred so far.

On the same day, authorities in Aden, controlled by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, denied landing permission to a Saudi delegation’s airplane at the city’s international airport. In response, Saudi Arabia deployed warships to the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden south of Yemen’s coast. Meanwhile, the UAE remains involved in various conflicts across the Middle East and Africa, supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis and backing the Southern Transitional Council, as well as playing a role in the Libyan conflict.

Given these developments, further escalation of tensions is possible, with potential implications for stability in the Persian Gulf region and the broader Middle East.
