Village in China exports mooncakes for the first time — ECNS
Huangzhuang Village in Hebei Province in northern China, known as the “mooncake village,” exported handmade mooncakes in large batches for the first time this year. The first deliveries to Australia and South Korea were made by a local company, ECNS reports.

According to Han Baowen, general manager of a local company, more than 20,000 packages of mooncakes were shipped to Australia in July. At the end of August, 30,000 packages were sent to South Korea, and another 30,000 were dispatched there on Monday.
The total export value exceeded 1 million yuan, or about $138,700. The Australian shipment sold out in seven days, while the batch in South Korea sold out in three days.

Production in the village
For foreign markets, the producer chose traditional flavors. The packaging was adapted to export requirements: ingredient information is printed in local languages alongside Chinese labeling.
Handmade mooncakes have been produced in Huangzhuang since the 1960s and 1970s. In recent years, the village’s products have become popular online because of their homemade taste and simple packaging. During peak periods, leading enterprises produce more than 200,000 packages a day.
Village representative Tian Yafeng said that producers reduced the oil and sugar content and began making mooncakes with tea flavors and mooncakes with medicinal ingredients. The value of mooncakes produced in Huangzhuang exceeded 100 million yuan in 2025. There are 113 producers of these products operating in the village.
