CIA Director Ratcliffe meets President el-Sisi in Cairo — Asharq Al-Awsat
US Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe met in Cairo, Egypt, with the country’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad also took part in the talks.
The meeting took place on Sunday during a rare visit by the CIA chief to Cairo. The publication notes that it occurred amid a US warning of a possible rapid escalation of the military conflict in the Middle East.
Topics of the talks
According to el-Sisi’s office, the sides discussed the wars in Iran, the Gaza Strip and Sudan, attacks on Gulf countries, as well as threats to maritime security.

The Egyptian president stressed the paramount importance of resolving regional crises through political and diplomatic means. His office’s statement also noted that the military conflict could escalate rapidly.

The office of Egypt’s president said that Ratcliffe noted Cairo’s key role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of regional crises.
